David E. Davis, Jr. and Dan Gurney Star at Ferraris on the Vine 2010

Racing legend Dan Gurney joined Automobile Magazine founder/former Car and Driver Editor/Publisher David E. Davis, Jr. and Pontiac Advertising & Promotion icon Jim Wangers in the recreation of David's hotly contested 1964 Car and Driver cover story: GTO vs. GTO here at the Winery.

On the grounds was the very 1964 Pontiac GTO provided by Wangers to the staff of Car and Driver for the magazine feature; located in Santa Monica, Calfornia, the car was brought to Williamsburg for the event.  What had been unknown for many years was the 'modification' of the Pontiac by Wangers by replacing the 389 cubic inch engine with a more powerful 421 cubic inch engine, which accounted for the Pontiac's surprising performance.  Davis, our Honored Guest and 46 years hence, clearly had not put the episode in the past, as he wrote in his August 2010 column in Car and Driver: "...he slipped us a totally bogus Pontiac....".
