The Wannamaker Trophy Comes to Wedmore Place

Amongst the many talented individuals employed at The Williamsburg Winery, Mark Frankel stands-out with his talent for silver.  Mark is amongst a precious few Master Silversmiths in the world, and you can periodically find Mark here at the Winery conducting our Reserve Wine Tastings.

Mark happens to have been the Silversmith recruited by the PGA of America to recreate the original Wannamaker Trophy that is presented to the winner of the PGA Championship each year.  The Championship is part of golf's Four Major Championships each year, and the Wannamaker Trophy was won this year by Martin Kaymer at Whistling Straits in Wisconsin. The original trophy, dating to 1926, was retired to the PGA of America offices in Palm Beach Garden, Florida.

That which befell the original trophy (mishandling through transit and presentation) also troubles the replacement trophy, and it returns to Mark periodically for remedial work and repair.  This year, Mark presented the trophy to a gathering of golf enthusiasts at Cafe Provencal. Mark regaled the group with a wonderful presentation on the history of John Wannamaker and his trophy, and later permitted an examination of the trophy and photo opportunities.
